The Heilig Hart van Jezus Kerk (Sacred Heart Church) near the city centre in Breda, Netherlands had not been used for worship since 1986. A demolition permit was issued in 2000, but was not carried out, partly because the church was occupied by squatters at the time. The permit was later revoked and in 2004 the now dilapidated church was given the protected status of a national monument.
This building has now been restored to its former glory to provide housing. Twenty apartments have been built within the walls of the old church. Clearline fusion roof integrated solar panels were used as part of the re-development.
Lei Import BV was part of the team that achieved this redevelopment, supplying Viridian Solar Clearline fusion in-roof solar panels and materials to renew the impressive slate roof. The in-roof solar panels were installed edge-to edge on the sloping roofs around the apartment balconies. Installation of the solar was by Leidekkersbedrijf Walter Verhoeven BV and Hoppenbrouwers Techniek.
Dennis Ramaekers, Technical Advisor Solar Energy and Skylights at Lei Import BV, said:
“It is great that the Clearline fusion in-roof solar panels were used for the repurposing of the Heilig Hartkerk. Aesthetically they fit perfectly within this project. I am very satisfied with the collaboration between De Bonth van Hulten, Hoppenbrouwers Techniek, Walter Verhoeven and Lei Import. In addition, we were very well supported by producer Viridian Solar and supplier EcotecWorld Nederland regarding the technical aspects of the products, the layout of the panels on the roof and all other supplies such as installation materials and inverters. The end result is fantastic.”
